Grind Size Guide — the right grind for every method

Grind size is the single biggest lever for good coffee. Too fine turns bitter, too coarse turns watery. This overview helps.

What you need

  • A good burr grinder
  • Fresh beans
  • Your brew method

Steps

  1. Espresso. Fine — like fine sand. 25–30 s shot time.
  2. Filter / V60. Medium — like table salt.
  3. French press. Coarse — like coarse sea salt.
  4. Adjust. Too bitter? Grind coarser. Too sour/watery? Grind finer.
